Fire HydrantTesting

Hydrant testing is a legal requirement

Regular hydrant testing ensures that in the event of a fire, the fire brigade will have sufficient firefighting water supplies to protect your property.

Underground hydrants require regular inspection by a competent contractor to ensure that they are always available.

The maintenance of privately-owned Fire Hydrants is detailed by British Standard BS9990:2015 which requires an annual inspection.

Unicorn can undertake and re-certificate your private hydrants. Our testing covers the following areas;

  • Flow test in Litres per minute

  • Pressure test in BAR

  • Signage

  • Pit and cover condition

  • Depth of valve

On completion of the test we will issue a full report and a Test Certificate indicating if the hydrant meets the current required standards.

Should our test indicate that the hydrant needs some attention, our report will detail what actions/works are required. Pictures/ photos will be supplied where applicable.

The Test certificate should then be held on record and presented to the relevant authority during Health and Safety audits/checks. Excessive fines will be administered to the Property owner/Property manager where no Test certificate can be provided; Insurance companies have also indicated that the premises insurance may be invalid where a test certificate does not exist.
